Ilaro Born Female Athlete, Aderonke Wins 3000m Race with New National Record …Oba Olugbenle ask govt to adopt her for special support

Nigeria – The status of Ogun State as a basket of talents in sports has again been boosted as 18 year old Aderonke Akanbi wins and sets new national record in a women’s 3000m race competition.

Aderonke, an Ilaro born female student of the Yewa (Egbado) College, Ilaro ran 9.34:53s at the just concluded 2023 AFN All Comers U18 and U20 trials in Kaduna on Friday.

The highly promising athlete broke her own record set in 2022 when she ran 9:36 seconds to win gold and smash Nigeria’s 33 year old women’s 3000m national record at the 2022 International School Sports Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade in France.

Also in 2022, she won a Bronze medal in 1500m race in the 21st National Sports Festival held in 2022 in Delta State, among other laurels she had won in various national and international competitions.

It would be recalled that Aderonke was one of the students presented with training kits donated by Yewa Descendants Union, North America (YDUNA) and presented by the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, HRM Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, on behalf of the Union in 2022.

Reacting to the cheering news of the latest new record set by Aderonke, Oba Olugbenle, according to his Media Consultant Omooba Femi Dokunmu, said the young athlete has proved her talent and deserves to be encouraged in her quest to bring glory to Ogun State and Nigeria, calling on the Ogun State Ministry of Youths and Sports to take her as one of the athletes to be adopted by Governor Dapo Abiodun for special support.

The SS 2 student, Aderonke is also a product of Agrotera Sports Academy, Joga Orile.
