ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, the Olu-Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle MFR, has described the relationship between the Obas and Governor Dapo Abiodun as a robust partnership that has made the development of the traditional institution central to the agenda of the government in building a safe and prosperous future for Ogun State.

According to a release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l magazine and online by Prince Femi Dokunmu, Media Consultant to the Olu-Ilaro & Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Olugbenle said this in an address presented at his inauguration recently as the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex, Okemosan, Abeokuta.

“I register my sincere appreciation to our people-friendly Governor, not only for supporting the Ogun State Council of Obas with required logistics needed to function well, but for making the development of the traditional institution central to the ‘Building-our-Future-Together’ agenda in Ogun State”, Oba Olugbenle said.

He assured the Governor and the people of Ogun State that, under his chairmanship, the Council will further consolidate on the already established cooperation with the State Government while the Obas will strive to continue to be efficient and effective in their statutory functions.

Oba Olugbenle said as the new Chairman, he would build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessors and work assiduously with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs and other relevant agencies to promote the welfare and progress of the Obas and the traditional institution in Ogun state.

He reeled out a six-point programme of action which he would pursue in his two-year tenure as Chairman, to include: fostering unity and harmony amongst traditional rulers in the State; instilling discipline, high moral standards and integrity expected of the exalted stools occupied by the Obas; collaborating with the State Government and the Executive Council to continue to drive development, peace and prosperity in the state; educating and sensitizing all royal fathers on their revered roles and expectation under the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun state, 2021 and other extant laws and collaboration with the State Government to put an end to the proliferation and menace of illegal Obas and Baales which is giving the traditional institution a bad image in the State.

Oba Olugbenle charged his brother Obas to continue to stand together in unity and solidarity as they jointly navigate the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead of them.

This inauguration of the Olu-Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland as Chairman of the Council marks the second time the revered Oba would be made Chairman of the Council in conformity with the rotational Chairmanship arrangement in Ogun State. His first time was in 2016.
