In a bid to ensure a clean environment for the well-being of its citizenry, Yewa North Local Government has begun desilting of drainage and clearing of bushy areas, to repel hoodlums and criminals, seeking hidden places to perpetrate devilish acts in the area.
Speaking on the development during the weekly environmental exercise in Ayetoro, Chairman of the council area, Hon. (Dr.) Olusola Akinbode, said the initiative was borne out of desire to ensure hygienic and conducive environment for the residents, particularly at the commencement of his administration, to prevent loss of lives, assets and valuables that might be caused by indiscriminate bush burnings.
Akinbode, who stated that the effort was also aimed at maintaining infrastructure provided by government, noted that the move would minimise effect of bush burning and other hazards, admonishing homeowners in the area to construct well-aligned drainages in front of their houses, while warning residents to desist from dumping refuse in unauthorised places and runoff routes.
Also speaking, Director, Water Resources and Environmental Services (WES) in the council, Mr. Solomon Adeyemi, said clearing of drainages and bushy areas would not only beautify the environment but also guarantee healthiness among the people.
