In its determination to finding a lasting solution to the perennial herders and farmers conflict in the area, the Chairman, Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has constituted Conflict Resolution Committee with a charge to proffer a lasting solution to the crisis across the Council.
Dr Akinbode made this known during a peace meeting organised for representatives of Farmers, Fulani herders, Community Leaders, Security Agencies among others stakeholders in Ayetoro, explaining that one of his priorities in the Council was to promote peaceful coexistence in the area.He said the peace meeting was crucial to give room for all concerned stakeholders to engage in a peaceful dialogue, appreciating all the Baales of concerned Communities, security agencies and others who took part in the meeting.
The LG boss further disclosed that, the constitution of the Conflict Resolution Committee was to ensure wider findings to the immediate and remote causes of the conflict and proffer solutions where necessary.
The Committee was headed by the Secretary of the Council, Alh. Lukumon Akinyemi with other stakeholders, comprising a traditional ruler, security agencies, representative of Fulani and Farmers as members.
In his submission, the Secretary, Atokun Cattle Market, Pastor Olusola Akindele thanked the Governor Dapo Abiodun for constituting Conflict Resolution Committee at the state level as well and other measures being taken to promote peaceful co- existence across the state
In his response, the Seriki Fulani, Ayetoro, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim, appreciated the Council for the peace initiative, saying the local government should continue to serve as perfect template for justice and fairness in its resolve towards ending the perennial farmers/herders clashes in the council
