YEWA NORTH LG BOSS TO DISTRIBUTE 30,000 CASH CROPS SEEDLINGS

Published:January 9, 2026

The Chairman of Yewa North Local Government Area (YNLG), Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has announced plans to distribute 30,000 cash crop seedlings to farmers across the local government ahead of the 2026 farming season.

Dr. Akinbode made the disclosure while fielding questions shortly after the maiden edition of Financial and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) meeting at the council secretariat in Ayetoro, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment towards boosting agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our local economy. This distribution of 30,000 cash crops is aimed at increasing yields, enhancing farmers’ income and strengthening food security in Yewa North,” he said.

He explained that the seedlings, including cocoa, cashew and palm oil, would be distributed to genuine farmers across the wards in a transparent manner, with support from agricultural extension officers to ensure effective cultivation.

The Chairman added that the council would continue to collaborate with the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant agencies to introduce more programmes that would support farmers and encourage youth participation in agriculture.

The trio of Supervisory Councillors for Agriculture, Information and Health, Hon. Oluwasegun Ableto, Hon Segun Oladodu and Alhaji Fatai Adekunbi described the initiative as timely, noting that it would further reposition agriculture as a viable economic venture in the area.

The Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Tajudeen Adesoye commended the council chairman for the intervention, saying it would help reduce production costs and improve output during the 2026 farming season.
