The Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, has said the newly commissioned Afon Township Road in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area will stimulate socio-economic development, boost trade and address flooding challenges in the community.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Akinsanya described the project as a reflection of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to inclusive development and the delivery of quality infrastructure across the State, particularly in rural areas.
He noted that the road served as a major artery within Afon town and also functions as a bypass linking the Abeokuta–Olorunda–Imeko Road. According to him, the improved access will enhance trade and economic interaction between Imeko-Afon and Abeokuta North Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner stressed that quality road infrastructure remained vital to economic growth, social integration and access to essential services such as healthcare, education and markets. He assured residents that the State government would continue to invest in strategic road projects with direct benefits for grassroots communities.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, commended the administration’s development initiatives in Ogun West and urged the government to sustain the momentum.
Similarly, the Obaladi of Afon, Oba Rashidi Babade, praised Governor Abiodun for reconstructing the township road, which he said had been neglected by previous administrations. The monarch noted that the project would open up the community to increased commercial activities, attract investors and improve the standard of living of residents.
The member representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, lauded the State government’s investment in road infrastructure, describing the project as a catalyst for prosperity in the area and the State at large.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Imeko-Afon State Constituency, Hon. Jemili Akingbade, said the road would significantly enhance commerce and agricultural activities in the community.
Lending his voice to the laudable project, Chairman, Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Oloyede, described the project as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to economic development, noting that improved road access would further boost agricultural productivity.
Residents of Afon expressed appreciation to the State Government, describing the road as a major relief that would reduce travel time, lower transportation costs and improve safety for road users.
