Residents of Opuala in Ipokia Local Government (LG), Eredo in Ajilete, Yewa South LG, Oba T.T Dada Market, Ota, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Owudotun Araromi and Oke-Ola communities in Sokori, Adio Ajegunle, Soyoye, in Abeokuta North LG, as well as Isale-Abetu, Adatan and Kugba, in Abeokuta South LG in Ogun State, have joined the league of communities who benefit from government’s provision of solar street lights, to complement the existing power supply in the areas.
Speaking during the installation, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, assured that more towns and rural communities would benefit in the renewable energy programme of Prince Dapo Abiodun through the Ministry.
Ilori-Oduntan, who was represented by the Director, Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, said the present administration would ensure more rural communities were lit up, just as more infrastructural projects, such as stable power supply, good road network, among other social amenities, would be executed, to improve living condition of rural dwellers.
She informed that government was committed to ensuring even distribution of infrastructural development in rural areas, to curb rural-urban drift and make life more comfortable at the grassroots, appealing to residents to take ownership and make judicious use of the facilities, to enable government do more.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salam, advised residents to imbibe maintenance culture of government facilities and not see them as no man’s property, noting that siting monumental projects in a domain would propel development of the area.
Appreciating the government on behalf of benefitting communities, the Local Government Chairman, Yewa South, Mr. Akeem Adeleye and Baale of Adio-Ajegunle Soyoye, Adio Rasheed, enthused that the exercise would help boost commercial activities, ward-off external forces trying to destabilise the peace of the communities, as well as aid movements at night.
