Chairman, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi, has admonished residents to maintain high level of personal and environmental hygiene, in order to keep Cholera disease at bay.
Hon. Ogunyomi, who stated this while monitoring weekly environmental sanitation in the Area, said government was intensifying efforts to curtail the disease in epidemic-prone area through infrastructural and socio-economic development, as well as public enlightenment, so that major causes of diseases such as, water pollution, contamination and massive flooding, would not recur.
“There are a whole lot of efforts; apart from environmental engineering and infrastructural development, we have also embarked on massive health sensitisation by the Department of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (WES) and we would continue to educate on the need to maintain high level of personal and environmental hygiene to our people “, he said.
He lauded the present administration under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising the health sector, promising complementary efforts to create an enabling environment for more intervention that would engender successful collaboration.
On his part, the Director of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation of Council, Sanitarian Solomon Adeyemi, applauded the state and local governments’ collaboration, informing that sensitisation was ongoing in markets and schools on the need to adhere to environmental hygiene, adding that the local government had created a conducive atmosphere for Environmental Officers to work.
