RENEWABLE ENERGY: MORE RURAL COMMUNITIES BENEFIT FROM LIGHT UP PROJECT

The renewable energy programme of Prince Dapo Abiodun has been stepped up to capture more rural communities into its Light Up project, to further enable people at the grassroots enjoy quality life, just as more Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state were powered with solar energy, to enhance their operations.

Speaking during the installation of solar street lights at Ijale Papa community in Abeokuta North; Idagba Ajegunle Irewami community, Ayetoro, Yewa North; Igboki, Imosan, Odoogbolu, Adiyan Alausa communities in Ifo Local Government, as well as Alaanu Health Centre, Owode Yewa, Yewa South Local Government, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, said provision of social amenities to rural dwellers would curb rural-urban migration.

Represented by the Director of Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, Mrs. Ilori-Oduntan, described rural dwellers as the food basket of the state, noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun was passionate about raising their standard of living through implementation of social wellbeing and infrastructural development programmes.

She informed that the exercise was an ongoing project, assuring that more rural communities would benefit in due course.

On his part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Oluwaseyi Sokoya, revealed that the renewable energy programme was borne out of state government’s resolve to reduce noise pollution and carbon-monoxide in the atmosphere, as well as cut consumption of fuel, which is now on the high side, advising the benefitting communities to take proper care of all the government facilities in their domain to make them durable.

Contributing, Head Community Health Officer, Alaanu Health Centre Owode Yewa, Mrs. Jane Ogunlade, said it would enhance their operations with uninterrupted power supply, especially at night.

Appreciating the state government, the traditional ruler of Ijale Papa community, Oba Micheal Aderohunmu, said the solar street lights would not only give the community an aesthetic facelift but also boost their economic activities and ward-off external threats.
