YPDC Chairman urges students to takes up development responsibilities; Adpots NAYES as YPDC baby
The stakeholders representative of the National Association of Yewa Students (NAYES-National Body) were on 30th of June 2023, pay a courtesy visit on the Chairman, Yewa People Development Council (YPDC), Prof Abdul Rahman Bello, at the YPDC Secretariat, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.
In his brief remarks, the leader of the delegation, a former National Chairman- NAYES National Caretaker Committee-, Hon. Prince Faruq Tella while introducing the body as the student structure that brings together and represents the interest of Yewa students within and outside the campus globally, appreciates the YPDC Chairman for express approval granted to the delegation for the visit. He said such a gesture will always propel them to do more in the services of Yewaland. He thereafter explains that the purpose of the visit is to familiarize the organization and its leadership structures to YPDC.
Another member of the delegation, a former National President of the organization, Com. Oludare Olakunle Fashina explains some of the structures of NAYES, its success stories, and some of the challenges encountered in actualizing its objectives to the YPDC Chairman. Other Members of the Organization executive gave insights into some of the challenges faced by the executive committee hindering accelerated developments of the body.
Responding, the Chairman of the YEWA People’s Development Council, Professor Rahmon Bello took the guest through the origin of the Yewa people and the rationale behind adopting the name-Yewa by all relevant stakeholders of YEWA extraction at the time despite little cultural differences, the diversity of which makes Yewaland stronger as we experience in the Nigerian state.
Familiarising YPDC to the delegation, The former University Don explains that the Yewa People Development Council (YPDC) is a council that brings together and serves as an umbrella body for all associations and organizations of Yewa origins globally. Established by the Yewa Traditional Council to foster unity and development by bringing together all critical organizations in Yewaland. He explained that Yewa students are expected to graduate from being Students to the youth wing of YPDC. Furthermore, their priority as fathers is to ensure Yewaland has a better students today to become good youth that will translate into responsible elders and become great leaders of Yewaland in the future. He noted that they have responsibilities to give necessary support to Students but students also have obligations to make YPDC and Yewaland proud, as a student and in all their undertakings.
He then charged the executive to research more about Yewa land, and its meaning, and understand where it begins and ends. As a student association, to get support from Political leaders and Yewa elders, we need to be structured, have a template as a guide, and be ready to take up responsibilities. To be more structured, there is a need to get the statistics of all the Yewa indigenes in all the higher institutions in Nigeria to aid the membership strength and participation and also to facilitate help when the need arises.
Conclusively, Prof. Bello urged executives to make a good database of the students, and other vital information needed. While giving the association full priority to using the YPDC secretariat as their secretariat.
The YPDC Chairman thereafter on behalf of the organization adopted the National Association of Yewa Students (NAYES) into the Yewa People Development Council (YPDC).
The former National Chairman Caretaker Committee and the leader of the delegation, Hon. Prince Faruq Tella, thereafter presented an award of excellence to Prof Abdul Rahman Bello for his inspiring contributions toward the development of Yewaland.
Other members of the delegation include; former Senate Clerk, Sen. Onigbide Abdullah, YPDC Administrative Secretary, Mr. Edun, NAYES General Secretary, Com. Elegbede Hannah, Senate Chief Whip, Sen. Onigbide Salam and Com.Tinuade Ponmile Solomon.
